Khoodeelaar! demonstrated outside the Palace of Westminster on 6 June 2006. That was a part of our the series of action that we took especially in June 2006 around the palace of Westminster where the “Crossrail Bill” “Select Committee” was in session taking “evidence” from objectors to the “Crossrail Bill”. On that same day- and before the demonstration which we mounted on the College Green opposite the Palace itself - we had also kept a campaigning appointment to reach the front door of No 10 Downing Street. Minutes beforehand, I stood on the pavement in the main mall whence Downing Street and wrote in long hand a letter FAO Tony Blair from KHOODEELAAR! that we then delivered at the Door making sure that the message got through to Tony Blair who was in post as UK PM. While we were doing those things, Ken Livingstone was keeping himself busy too. He too was in contact with No 10 Downing Street. Whereas we had gone there emphatically demanding an end to Crossrail, Ken Livingstone was doing his bits to SUPPORT Crossrail.

Today is Saturday. 29 January 2011. SEVEN years ago today, the last Saturday of January 2004 was dated 31st. Two days and dates apart. On this day the KHOODEELAAR! campaign completes SEVEN years of activities defending the East End of London in particular against the Big Business agenda Crossrail hole scam attack.
The defence continues.
The campaign defending the East End has been defined by our accurate location of it in and around the community’s frontline Brick Lane. That definition has been essentially prompted by the overwhelming evidence of the size, the shape and the calculations contained in the package of attack that was being mounted via the Crossrail hole plot.
That plot had been fabricated during the four years prior to January 2004 by the recruitment of touts from the institutional embodiment of ‘electoral representation’ that is the ‘local’ Tower Hamlets Council. The Khoodeelaar! Campaign policy was also based on the evidence that was undeniably accessible.
That evidence was that the controlling clique on the ‘local’ Tower Hamlets Council.. had been colluding with the big Business interest that had floated the idea that a massive hole should be dug through the Brick Lane area in order to enable some City of London interest to profit from the loss that the East End would be caused! Khoodeelaar! has stopped that dirt hole attack. Other implications are still ongoing and so is the Khoodeelaar! campaign. With the CONDEM assault on Society in the UK looking very exposed as it unravels, the East End of London can note yet another vindication of the accurate diagnosis which the Khoodeelaar! campaign had been making of the behaviour and the related, conduct-linked personalities of a number of key players long before they were thought to be heading for the spotlight that they are in now.
The UK CONDEM finance minister George Osborne’s admission to Channel 4 News, just broadcast, that “more investment” was needed to get the UK economy anywhere near the level where the German economy was performing at present again illustrates the utter lack of sense in the CONDEM ‘economic recovery policy’! Why? Because Osborne only uttered his string of slogans after Channel 4 News Economics editor Faisal Islam pointed out the “relatively better performance” by the German economy. Moments previously, Faislal Islam had referred to the US economy too doing better than the UK one under the CONDEM regime. Osborne looked blank. In fact he looked blank throughout the “interview” that he went through with Faisal Islam. Apart from anything else, he would look a complete fool if he made any move to physically get off from the encounter with Faisal islam and the Channel 4 News camera crew.
Osborne was challenged on his blaming the snow of the last quarters economic performance.
The Khoodeelaar! campaign against Big Business agenda Crossrail hole assault had warned seven years ago this month that the scam was being driven by people who were using the transport slogan to actually loot and rob the UK public.
For seven years, KHOODEELAAR! campaign has diagnosed reach and every key evidence and has published the findings. Not a single one of the mainstream parties has backed us in that time. Yet on all key counts, the Khoodeelaar! diagnosis has been proven correct and our conclusions vindicated.

Today’s ‘mainstream media’ coverage also reinforces the Khoodeelaar! campaign analysis maintained for the past seven years of the behaviour of the ‘railway bureaucracy’. We found evidence pretty early on as we set of to stop that the ones who were fronting the propaganda label ‘Crossrail’ were lying. Their lying meant that they could not be trusted on anything they they said. Neither on the unspecified, vaguely uttered benefits that they were saying the East End would receive from “Crossrail” nor on the reasoning for the Crossrail hole route that constituted the central threat to this part of London. A key aspect of their lying was unearthed by Kay Jordan who deployed her engineering, design and architectural prowess in her determination to find the truth beyond the lies that we were being told. Kay came across the ‘little known’ matter of the Heron Tower. We were in the first part of 2004 when Kay began exploring. By the time the full extent and the implications of the role played by ‘the Heron Tower’ in the Crossrail hole plan against the Brick Lane London E1 area, our campaign had already established the main parameters and set out the defining details of the democratic case against Crossrail. It was still a long while before the SUNDAY TIMES insignificantly caught up on the Heron Tower link. But they did it to aid and abet Boris Johnson. Their angle was the link that one of the Guinness trial jailbirds [by now ‘ex’ jail bird] had with Ken Livingstone. The SUNDAY TIMES didn’t publish anything about our campaign. Yet it was our campaign that had made the Heron Tower at all a ‘public interest issue’! When Tower Hamlets Council’s controlling bureaucracy, aided and abetted by transient postholders and or ‘democratic representatives’ [!!] , is in fact engaged in creating ADDITIONAL poverty in the Borough, whatever it spouts out showing alleged concern ‘against’ cuts, must be treated as untruthfully proffered.
Tower Hamlets London borough is, after all, one of inner city ‘most deprived’ category areas that houses some of the most dishonest and corrupt perpetrators of social exclusion, discrimination amounting to ongoing degeneration. It is for this reason that “youth unemployment” remains persistently high in Tower Hamlets.
As does the other main category of alleged dependency - which is not so much a dependency as a cul de sac created by the combined corruption of the cabal controlling the democratically deficit Council that is fast descending into a deep irreparable degeneration of its own. Once Tower Hamlets Council is DEMONSTRATED as a failing Council, it will be only a matter of time before it is ‘officially branded’ untenable and then IN EFFECT made FULLY dysfunctional.
That is the possibility that all key factors now in play are leading to. This state of “locally elected’ democracy done down by degenerate bureaucracy” has not happened overnight, no matter what the zombified mouthpieces may be seen muttering on the subject. The onset of degeneration taking over where democracy should have prevailed took place decades earlier. It follows then that today's grim picture about high youth unemployment in Tower Hamlets and equally high percentages of people and families in poverty or low income have been EMBRACED by the corrupt bureaucracy in control of the Council.
Why?
One reason is that the higher the incidence and the volume of poverty the stronger is the ‘case’ the Council can make for central Government funding.
This alone is a cycle of deprivation that has been in parts deliberately set off by the corrupt cabala over the past decades...

The poverty-creating assault by CONDEM continues as many in Tower Hamlets are experiencing. Tower Hamlets Council is using the cuts agenda as pretext to depress the community even more.
What with George Osborne blaming the weather for the dire data released yesterday confirming the CONDEM Collusion’s economic failures, the so-called “regeneration” of the inner city areas typified by Tower Hamlets has been hitting the buffers every day.
The train of fantasy “regeneration” that is the Crossrail propaganda has been again given yet another spin this week, with Boris Johnson making yet another contradictory and facile statement in justification of the Section 106 penalty that he is adding to the list of looting tax that he has been foisting on the ordinary people.
Boris Johnson has been unable to make a coherent statement let alone deliver a policy consistent with the economic capacity of the community ion London. He is and will remain an organ for the promotion of the Big Business interest that has been running the ‘London mayor’ and the agenda of that post holder ever since the diversionary wasteful bureaucracy was created by Blair ten years ago.
If Boris Johnson has been failing to deliver economic sustainability for the people across London so has every single local Council in inner city London.
The behaviour of Tower Hamlets Council.. has been as dishonest, unrepresentative of the people and as unaccountable this past quarter [here referring to George Osborne weather-faked lies uttered yesterday Tuesday 25 January 2011] as it was being in the previous quarters, years and even decades.
But this is not being reported by any of the known media. Neither the “local” press - which now includes the Big Biz agenda-peddling ‘titles’ {names of ‘newspapers and magazines’} published from addresses sited in what they falsely and misleading persist in calling “the Dockhands” when in truth the area concerned is still the same one that used to be known as the Isle of Dogs very much in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets] - nor the ‘national” “mainstream” media is even reporting this, let alone investigating the nature and the implications of what is going on. AADHIKAR Media is covering this exclusively.
And we shall be reporting on the empirical studies being conducted on the reality of Tower Hamlet Council creating news and additional poverty in the Borough.

The poverty-creating assault by CONDEM continues as many in Tower Hamlets are experiencing. Tower Hamlets Council is using the cuts agenda as pretext to depress the community even more.
What with George Osborne blaming the weather for the dire data released yesterday confirming the CONDEM Collusion’s economic failures, the so-called “regeneration” of the inner city areas typified by Tower Hamlets has been hitting the buffers every day.
The train of fantasy “regeneration” that is the Crossrail propaganda has been again given yet another spin this week, with Boris Johnson making yet another contradictory and facile statement in justification of the Section 106 penalty that he is adding to the list of looting tax that he has been foisting on the ordinary people.
Boris Johnson has been unable to make a coherent statement let alone deliver a policy consistent with the economic capacity of the community ion London. He is and will remain an organ for the promotion of the Big Business interest that has been running the ‘London mayor’ and the agenda of that post holder ever since the diversionary wasteful bureaucracy was created by Blair ten years ago.
If Boris Johnson has been failing to deliver economic sustainability for the people across London so has every single local Council in inner city London.
The behaviour of Tower Hamlets Council.. has been as dishonest, unrepresentative of the people and as unaccountable this past quarter [here referring to George Osborne weather-faked lies uttered yesterday Tuesday 25 January 2011] as it was being in the previous quarters, years and even decades.
But this is not being reported by any of the known media. Neither the “local” press - which now includes the Big Biz agenda-peddling ‘titles’ {names of ‘newspapers and magazines’} published from addresses sited in what they falsely and misleading persist in calling “the Dockhands” when in truth the area concerned is still the same one that used to be known as the Isle of Dogs very much in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets] - nor the ‘national” “mainstream” media is even reporting this, let alone investigating the nature and the implications of what is going on. AADHIKAR Media is covering this exclusively.
And we shall be reporting on the empirical studies being conducted on the reality of Tower Hamlet Council creating news and additional poverty in the Borough.

More than 25 years ago, doing my democratic audit job as the community-elected representative for the inner London Borough of Tower Hamlets on the then Inner London Education Authority [ILEA] I met a predecessor in bureaucracy of Helen Bullers as based at the Royal London Hospital.
That was a meeting that had, interestingly, resulted from a letter I had published in a Nursing magazine.
The subject matter was the state of nursing in the NHS generally and the failure of the NHS bureaucracies to serve the needs of ALL patients as illustrated by the dismal experience of so many in the areas covered by the inner cities Hospitals. I argued then as I have been arguing for the 25 years that have followed my action that the most appropriate criteria for recruiting nursing and other health service staff must be based on and derived from the needs of the population that is served by a Hospital or by an NHS service.
The claim you attribute to “Director of workforce Helen Bullers” if truthful is staggering and lethally inconsistent with the universal entitlements of patents to the due nursing and health care.
I would suggest that that attitude would also be a likely ground for more than one civil law actions against any NHS or health service manager or executive. Both UK domestic statutes and international laws to which the UK is a signatory are prima facie violated in the assertion that you have attributed to Helen Bullers.

When even the die-hard Tory paper the DAILY MAIL admits that CONDEM is wrongly targeting society's vital arteries for cuts the answer is CLEAR.
That answer to the question we had earlier today posed on this blog: Does Cameron care?
The DAILY MAIL is reporting about the effects the CONDEM cuts are having on vital social facilities. Services, support and back up that are central to the survival of society.
This latest admission by the likes of the London DAILY MAIL is linked to the report published by a policy research group called “Centre for Social Justice”.
All the main news agencies trading in the UK have reported the CSJ’s findings in identical manner. The “coalition cuts are hitting the wrong targets”. This is in fact the same conclusion that even the CBI’s outgoing director general Richard lambert has come to. That the CONDEM regime is on to a loser! The loss is going to be a big one: Society itself.
Measured against this kind of dire destructive “initiative” that is also at the same time costing £BILLIONS of public money, the work that has been going on in the past 30 years or so under the initiative of the uniquely gifted Kay Jordan merits more than a detailed look.
We have been looking at some of Kay Jordans’ work already. In the next part, we examine the miniature miracle of sustainable economics that kay Jordan has been bringing about in the Brick lane London E1 area in that time.

Cutbacks: The think-tank the CSJ, founded by Iain Duncan-Smith, has called for a radical re-think of where the axe falls
Away from all the noise of the student agitprop merchants and trade union vested interests there is a serious contribution to where the public spending axe should really fall.
The Centre for Social Justice reports that ‘outcome-based Government’ challenges the whole basis on which the state spends our money - and instead of measuring inputs we should measure outputs.
As the CSJ put it, Whitehall has for years measured success ‘as higher spending and taxes leading to more police, teachers and social workers.
‘But they ignore outcomes that matter to the public such as less crime, better exam results and fewer drug addicts. The result of this approach is not just a waste of public money. It is also a waste of using spending programmes to deliver more effective outcomes for the country at large.’
For instance, ‘the Government spends £1.2 billion a year on measures aimed at tackling problem drug use, yet does not know what overall effect this spending is having.’
We have become used to an Equalities Impact Assessment of any proposal from Government. But what about an independent assessment of whether the proposal has achieved anything tangible?
Just as with spending transparency, where we are starting to see more detail on where our money is spent, we should also see what difference the spending has made.

Overall public spending will only fall very marginally over the next four years by four per cent over the whole period after allowing for inflation. In cash terms spending is actually going up to over £700 billion.
In some areas such as the NHS, overseas aid, debt interest and our contributions to the EU there will be substantial increases in real terms. But in other areas there will be some big cuts amounting to £81 billion. The choices about where to find those savings are crucial to the success of the coalition Government.
The case highlighted last week of Celyn Vincent, a six-year-old child who has some severe disabilities, illustrates the challenge.
Her mother says she can't cope without more respite care. She says: ‘The care at the moment costs £15 per hour which is £90 per week but they’re not going to increase it for us. If Celyn has to go into a residential home it will cost £2,000 to £3,000 per week. It’s crazy.’
The Government are providing an extra £20 million for respite care - coming from some of the savings from scrapping the Child Trust Fund. But should they do more?
It is quite likely that extra spending in this area would mean lower spending on residential care for the reason Mrs Vincent gave. This is the sort of area where the outcome of the spending needs to properly considered.
Disabled: Celyn Vincent suffers from quadriplegic cerebral palsy and life-threatening epilepsy
Children's home should be a last resort - both for the interests of the child and for financial reasons. Some are ‘secure’ children's homes – generally used to accommodate young offenders. Some are for severely disabled children whose parents are unable to cope and where foster carers can't cope either.
But over a billion a year is spent on children's homes and many of the children should not be placed in such institutions.
A Government report has noted: ‘The educational outcomes of children whose last placement is in residential care are even worse than those of other Looked After children, with 73 per cent failing to get even a single GCSE.’
he Sir Humphrey mentality will always be defensive about challenging the status quo. It will also be defensive about cuts to bureaucracy.
These are familiar political challenges. But the debate on the spending cuts should not just be about efficiency. It should also be about whether each state programme is really delivering results for the British people.
What functions is it really worthwhile for the state to carry out? Those programmes that are failing should not just be streamlined or made more efficient. They should be stopped altogether.

We do object to having to be considered that we will put a percentage on our rates to support a rail link tunnel connecting simply the City of London to Canary Wharf in the east and Heathrow in the west, and no amount of argument claiming economic regeneration, which has been claimed, additionality or connectivity will change our minds about this. We are convinced that the proposals are anything but what they say they are and represent the advancement of the City into the East End. They will do, as far as we are concerned, the opposite to what they say they will do and in our opinion they will devastate and completely destroy our vibrant and multi-cultural community. I will note that I put in my notes here, "I expect the Chairman by now to be saying what he is not wanting to hear from Miss Jordan," and for his sake I will now turn to the detail of the Bill.

In fact, just behind the very large block in the middle which was going to be the hole, you will just be able see two little strips of yellow.

You can see large chunks of property to the left of where the main hole would be, which are workshops and flats which were the ones the housing co-operative started off with. The plots to the south, I have mentioned. The block in the north is another collection of properties that we have off Brick Lane which are subject to being probably interfered with with the first Crossrail proposal. Come along and you will see to the east of where the hole is there is a whole series of blocks which are also properties, some of which are owned by the SSPA and the very large property on the left-hand side is a community centre which is owned by the local authority but managed by ourselves.

It is an extract from a manual report of—and if I could read Bengali, then I could tell you—it is 1989. It was representing our tenants and members. The man “from Fleet Street” turned out to be David Cohen who staged one of numerous mini stunts that his “Street” had indulged in over the previous months all aimed at undermining the ordinary people and community in the East End of London. Cohen was accompanied by a discreetly present co-attacker of the community from the same [‘Fleet] ‘Street’. It was Cohen who launched the attack on this occasion - a specially organised meeting called by the “Spitalfields Small Business Association” [= ‘SSBA’] while his co-attacker sat there appearing to be unconnected with Cohen as they both measured the reaction their target meeting was showing.
Cohen was not entitled to mount the attack that he did mount. The event was intended to provide an opportunity for people in the East End involved in actually running or setting up small businesses. Their questions would have been best addressed to anyone seeking to assume any significant power at the local Tower Hamlets Council.
But Cohen made sure that the ordinary people or the small business people present were denied that opportunity. It was Cohen who deprived the people of the opportunity.
And by doing so, Cohen robbed the community of a historic moment which could have been used to obtain an account from some of those who sat on ‘the platform’ either seeking to get on to Tower Hamlets Council or who had already been in position/s on Tower Hamlets Council...
So who is David Cohen?
Who else but THE man that the London EVENING STANDARD has appointed as the one who decides what is DISPOSSESSION in London, who is ‘fit’ to be DISPOSSESSED and who is their ‘saviour’.
David Cohen DISPOSSESSED the people attending the SSBA’s meeting held in the Brick Lane London E1 area and he thus became a real life violator of uncounted people’s basic community rights, democratic say and dimmed the prospects of their holding, no matter how symbolically, any of the local Tower Hamlets Councillors to account!

We have been devising the necessary evidential and empirical responses to those and going beyond the next anticipated attack so that the defence of the community continues without being diverted by the touts, agents and stooges of Big Bizness operating to sabotage the community. Our defence of the East End of London and our advocacy for it has been most widely published online and in the historic Khoodeelaar! Campaign Bulletin containing the key news and commentary circulated in the area in hard copy for the past seven years. That work is as it has been exclusive, in-depth and exhaustive. The analyses and the action programme have been consistent with the objectively defined criteria in accordance with the highest standards known to any community of people in any part of the world in the CURRENT [recent, present] decades, of morality, ethics and universally recognisable constitutionality due process and legality. Khoodeelaar! declared that CONTRARY top the Blaired Party’s propaganda and the collusion by the Tories and the Lib Dems [we are referring to hysteria created in the second week of january 2006] via all the mainstream UK Media aimed at George Galloway, he [Galloway] had NOT betrayed the constituency over Crossrail. There is no disputing of the fact that Khoodeelaar! has been opposing Crossrail since January 2004. So when two years later in Hanbury 2006 some ignorant hate-mongers decided to demonise Galloway by claiming that Galloway had failed to defend the constituency on Crossrail, it HAD TO BE KHOODEELAAR! that spoke the overdue truth on that issue as well. And we did. I spoke in the Hanbury Street into a megaphone and said that those who had been making such claims that Galloway had let his constituency down by failing to attend a crucial vote in the Commons about Crossrail, were not telling the truth. I also aids that Galloway HAD spoken against Crossrail hole attacks six months earlier back in July 2005. I then listed the key failings of the Blairing fakers who had been the ones that had let the Bethnal Green and Bow Constituency [in which Brick Lane London E1 and adjoining areas affected by Crossrail hole attacks as planned are situated]. Kay Jordan was not far from me. She too spoke and accurately denounced the real perpetrators who had brought on the community the threat of the devastating Crossrail hole. Kay then got into probably one of the very small number of public campaigning local events that she most enjoyed on that day: our march from hanbury Street via Spelman street through Princelet Street and Brick lane and back into the Hanbury Street. We were marking the formal sitting on that afternoon of the “House of Commons” “Crossrail hole BIll” “Select Committee” for the first time. After our demonstration and public statement setting out the facts about George Galloway’s role in echoing the Khoodeelaar! campaign in parliament upto that time, there was NO MORE references to Galloway's role on Crossrail in any of the fabrications issued about Galloway by the Blairing regime and the Blairing ideological colluders sited and consigned in the Tower Hamlets Blaired party. When that happened only then that some mysteriously silent ‘ allies’ of George Galloway began to surface once again..... They then encroached on the local scene gradually and kept on creeping about in a way that was to lead to Galloway's later experiences that are too widely known by now to be recounted here in this updater report against the Big Biz agenda Crossrail and our defence ongoing of the East End community . During this week, here, we go over the other details of the impact of the Khoodeelaar! intervention in the context of Bethnal Green and Bow in parliament in the UK and why the KHOODEELAAR! campaign's predictions have all come true as have been our diagnostic commentaries and conclusions and our findings. The defence of the “Brick Lane London E1 area” has also included the defence of the Whitechapel, Bethnal Green south and Stepney areas! And as the record of the Khoodeelaar! campaign so far shows, that defence also includes [& has included] the defence of the rest of the community in the electorally bureaucratically registered part of London known as the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The Movement that Khoodeelaar! is part of is the Movement for the defence of the community against all attacks: Economic, Environmental, ‘Educational’, Social, Institutional.......
This defence is lawful. legitimate, moral. ethical, constitutional. Universal. And universally Democratic to the highest possible standard of transparency accountability and morality known in our time!
No wonder that the stooges, agents and touts of the forces of darkness that are behind the Big Business propaganda and lying have been active to spread false promises to the people and the community in the East End of London claiming that Crossrail will bring “benefits”.
It is a lying promise that they would not even bother to make - at any level of inherent dishonesty produced by their outlook and by their ideological bankruptcy and immorality- had it not been for the incontrovertible evidence we have been producing showing that Crossrail is NEVER nor has it been EVER about the transport needs of ordinary people in the East End of London but for the furtherance of the greedy and corrupting purposes of the Big Biz operatives sited at Canary Wharf and in the “City of London”.
Our Movement in defence of the community in the East End of London had sought toe expose the truth about “Canary Wharf” and the “City of London” as far back as 2000 when the then Blaired Party machine and their locally sited apparatchiks were programmed to do the zombie-like promotion that they were engaged in by chanting “Crossrail! Crossrail! Crossrail!” at their zombie gatherings and ‘in’ do’s, events and jamborees!!
They have been forced by our campaign into a corner- no, a cul de sac - of parasitic defensiveness in order to retain any semblance of claim to any vestige of legitimacy as they struggle to overcome the moral tide that is heading against them....

Boris Johnson’s latest retailing [ see for instance Johnson's’ latest reported move http://www.24dash.com/news/local_government/2011-01-19-Mayor-of-London-plans-Community-Infrastructure-Levy-on-all-new-developments-to-boost-Crossrail-delivery ] of the claim that London’s businesses must pay even more tax to fund the Crossrail scam is not news to the East End of London. Or it should not be. For the past SEVEN years, the KHOODEELAAR! campaign has been at once anticipating this sort of touting by place men and place women serving the interest of Big Business [=Big Biz] while allowing Big Biz to loot ordinary people thus keeping environmental, social and economic disparity going on and poverty persisting in the community. We have been devising the necessary evidential and empirical responses to those and going beyond the next anticipated attack so that the defence of the community continues without being diverted by the touts, agents and stooges of Big Bizness operating to sabotage the community.
Our defence of the East End of London and our advocacy for it has been most widely published online and in the historic Khoodeelaar! Campaign Bulletin containing the key news and commentary circulated in the area in hard copy for the past seven years.
That work is as it has been exclusive, in-depth and exhaustive.
The analyses and the action programme have been consistent with the objectively defined criteria in accordance with the highest standards known to any community of people in any part of the world in the CURRENT [recent, present] decades, of morality, ethics and universally recognisable constitutionality due process and legality.
One of the organisations that KHOODEELAAR! has been actively supporting as part of our defence of the community against “Big Biz agenda Crossrail hole plot.....” is the SSBA. And as part of this we have been for the seven years working with the SSBA’s director Kay Jordan.
In 2006, we updated with Kay Jordan’s active participation the then basic CASE against Crossrail hole assault as had been plotted against the “Brick Lane area”.
The phrase “Brick Lane area” has been empirically in existence for years before the Khoodeelaar! Campaign against Crossrail.....even began. However, the phrase was RESISTED by certain sources and elements who outwardly claimed to be also opposed to the Big Biz agenda Crossrail scam but who sought at all stages to deny the reality of the social and the objectively defined political Brick Lane of the first decade of the 21st century of the particular calendar. We shall separately and on later occasions update our account of those who had been indifferent or even hostile to the phrase “Brick lane area”. During the formative weeks, months of the founding of the KHOODEELAAR! campaign, Kay Jordan stood out as the only one among the physically present and participating “members of the local community” who was familiar with the “others” . Even at that early stage, in January and February and March 2004, Kay Jordan came across as the one possessing the universal approach. She instantly agreed that “Brick Lane area” was the most appropriate and potentially the most effective one. Events have vindicated that approach and the Khoodeelaar! campaign has been enormously enhanced by Kay Jordan’s involvement in it.
In her evidence, Kay Jordan told the then “House of Commons” “Crossrail Bill” “Select Committee” about the key part that the “Brick Lane area” plays in our defence of the East End of London.

11300. One of the aims of the SsBA is to represent the views of its members and the wider community and all the economic and other related issues as they affect Spitalfields, and it is on this basis that I wish to present the following case in relation to the Promoters' proposals for their cross London rail link to the heart of our community.
11301. Before going into detail I wish it to be recorded that these views relate only to the detail of the works as they relate to the Brick Lane area, because we are told that it is not possible for this Committee to discuss or take evidence aboutovery clso: the need of economic justification for the overall proposals, and we consider the overall proposals to be neither economically sound nor socially justified.
11302. As an Association of Small Businesses we also wish to have put on record our opposition to the notion that businesses in London should pay a percentage increase in business rates—
11303. Mr Liddell-Grainger: Mrs Jordon, this is nothing to do with us; you said it yourself. We cannot take it into consideration.
11304. Ms Jordan: We do object to having to be considered that we will put a percentage on our rates to support a rail link tunnel connecting simply the City of London to Canary Wharf in the east and Heathrow in the west, and no amount of argument claiming economic regeneration, which has been claimed, additionality or connectivity will change our minds about this. We are convinced that the proposals are anything but what they say they are and represent the advancement of the City into the East End. They will do, as far as we are concerned, the opposite to what they say they will do and in our opinion they will devastate and completely destroy our vibrant and multi-cultural community. I will note that I put in my notes here, "I expect the Chairman by now to be saying what he is not wanting to hear from Miss Jordan," and for his sake I will now turn to the detail of the Bill.
11305. My papers are numbers 1 to 4. If you could start with one, please. This is the slide you saw much earlier when these proceedings started.[10] In fact, my office has kindly altered it to try and highlight what the Promoters were saying where our properties are affected by it. You can see a very large yellow block in the middle. Down on the right-hand side is a block where the arrow route of the traffic is, which is a converted synagogue and business centre where my office is. In fact, just behind the very large block in the middle which was going to be the hole, you will just be able see two little strips of yellow.
11306. Could you turn to the next document, please.[11] This document shows our property holding as it is affected by the railway. These are the properties that are affected. You can see large chunks of property to the left of where the main hole would be, which are workshops and flats which were the ones the housing co-operative started off with. The plots to the south, I have mentioned. The block in the north is another collection of properties that we have off Brick Lane which are subject to being probably interfered with with the first Crossrail proposal. Come along and you will see to the east of where the hole is there is a whole series of blocks which are also properties, some of which are owned by the SSPA and the very large property on the left-hand side is a community centre which is owned by the local authority but managed by ourselves.
11307. Could you turn to the next picture, please.[12] I have put this in as a graphic representation. It is an extract from a manual report of—and if I could read Bengali, then I could tell you—it is 1989. It was representing our tenants and members. You can see from Hanbury Street and Princelet Street we sit exactly in and around where this hole is, so you will see how we are affected.
11308. Could I see the next picture, please.[13] These pictures are of the properties in Hanbury and Princelet Streets. You will see the Dutch gable properties which are on Hanbury Street which were improved in the late 1980s and the single row of terrace with the big building in the background. The big building is in fact Britannia House which is, or was in fact, to be knocked down and the single row of properties are back workshops behind a terrace of property owned by the housing co-operative. These were properties we separated out in terms of residential and industrial use. You can see the tenants outside. This, in fact, was a building site that Prince Charles came to when he said something should be done with the East End. I should say that now we are certainly having something done to us.
11309. Now the next one, please.[14] Unfortunately, despite our property holding, it was not until the beginning of January 2004 that I knew anything about the proposals for a large hole in Hanbury Street. It was simply by bumping into a neighbour of ours who said, "I thought you would have been jumping up and down about the fans in Hanbury Street." I said, "What fans in Hanbury Street?" I was then told there had been some exhibition in late October that he had called in and seen but was not been seen by anybody else. That neighbour directed me to a Crossrail website. On the Crossrail website I found these two boards, and I understand these were boards that were in their public consultation exhibition. You can see on the left-hand side our Dutch gable properties looking very smart, not quite right but very smart, adjacent to it and above it is an indication of a major development which was to take place with the fans and a strange sort of tunnel arrangement underneath. This horrified me, but it was when I read the sheet on the left-hand side that alarm bells really started ringing. Whilst it was explained that this would be a ventilation shaft and it would indeed have fans that would be running day and night, the second to last paragraph, when I read it, absolutely caused alarm bells. I will read it to the Committee for the sake of the report: "The shaft worksite is also proposed to be used as a launch and retrieval point for tunnel-boring machines that will be used during tunnel construction". Now being an architect, I understood what this meant. I was absolutely horrified that the indication of these words was the fact that the tunnels will be dug from our area. One sentence, nothing else, nothing else on the website, no indication of the Pedley Street worksite other than a little green line running up the side. I was absolutely horrified.
11310. I was so horrified that in fact I penned a letter to Crossrail. In fact, I have an exhibit of that here.[15] If you could just put that up. I will paraphrase all of this. I wrote to Mr Simon Bennett saying that he appeared to have carried out consultations that were about this. We understood that round one consultation would be completed on 19 January and they will be asking for approval under that to fix the line of this railway, which nobody knew about. We had learned nothing about this. We registered our strongest complaints about it and we wished it to be known that not only was a consultation exercise a sham but we were also lead to believe that the office had been told not to consult in our area. We also demanded that round one consultation process remain open until the proposals about the Hanbury Street shaft and spoil tunnels were openly presented to the people of the Brick Lane area so we could all see what was going on. I copied my letter to a great number of local organisations, all of which are listed on this letter. I got no reply to that and, therefore, consulted a friend of mine who was a retired QC who also thought it was rather odd that nothing happened and we had not been consulted. Therefore, I wrote again to Mr Bennett on 6 February explaining that we ask again that they give consideration to further examination and to give us the opportunity to be consulted.[16] We also pointed out that there is not to be anything about the environmental effects this would have within our community within their presentation. I did get later replies. What then pursued was two or three months of hectic information gathering, not information that was presented at a public meeting but information across a great number of community organisations who met both individually and collectively with Crossrail to try and find out what was happening.
11311. Could you put up the next slide, please.[17] This slide was the one presented not publicly but to a meeting with the Spitalfields Society. Fortunately, we were able to share information. It was on that basis of this that we were able to discover that the Pedley Street worksite which is at the end of that blue line which disappeared off the top of the original presentation drawings was not only as it had been in the first round—can you show me the next one, please, it is the extent of the worksite in Pedley Street on the first proposals for Crossrail—not only was it similar to the original site, but, in fact, it was considerably larger.[18] Not only was it taking spoil from the hole, but it was taking spoil from the railway station that will be dug at Whitechapel. This is a composite diagram of Crossrail's old drawings which my clever staff were able to put together.[19] You will see the lettering and the writing are all at strange angles because they were never connected before, they were all in little bits. You find the great block of Pedley Street was something that I put together having gleaned from the various bits of information that we got at the individual discussions and meetings that we had. Could you put the next one up.
11312. Mr Mould: I am sorry to interrupt the Petitioner but, as the Committee will have noted, lest there be any confusion, those last two drawings were composites of the private bill scheme from the early 1990s on which certain earlier aspects of the current scheme—because Pedley Street is, of course, no longer part of our proposals—were superimposed.
11313. Ms Jordan: Could you go back now please. This one is a composite of your current scheme, and I may in my bag have drawings.[20] These are three separate drawings; in fact the only addition is the very large block at the top which is in my composite added to your drawings. Could I go to slide 11 now, please.[21] Having put this picture together locally, everybody was so horrified that we tried to get a public meeting called by Crossrail. Crossrail refused to do this, so in fact my committee invited them to a meeting of a few members. To that meeting we invited—because it was a private meeting, and you are refused to come to a private meeting—representatives of other organisations. This was a letter that was sent to Alistair Darling at the end of that meeting.[22] It said, and I will read some it: "At the meeting of Wednesday 26 May"—this was in 2004—"60 people from 19 local organisations met two Crossrail representatives—"
11314. Mr Liddell-Grainger: Ms Jordan, we can read it.
11315. I will paraphrase then. We expressed our concerns about the worksites and the proposals in Brick Lane here. We had heard they would not hold a public meeting. Despite repeated requests, this did not happen. At the end of that meeting the people living and working in the area passed a resolution. For the record, I would like to read that resolution. It is as follows: "The people of the Brick Lane area, the Spitalfields around the town ward in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, are not prepared to accept the environmental, social and economic impact of the current proposals by Crossrail to locate a tunnel access shaft, ventilation shaft and underground tunnels in and passing through the heart of our communities. We are appalled at the lack of understanding of politicians, engineers and businesses from outside the area of the disruption and profound impact of these proposals of many years on the lives, health and livelihoods of people living and working here. We have launched a campaign for change and we use all legitimate means at our disposal to achieve change. In particular, we will seek with energy and resolve to defeat the re-election for the political representatives not prepared to meet with us to bring about the changes we seek". This was sent in June 2004 and, as you probably know, we now no longer have the MP that was our MP of the period neither do we have the leader of the council and several of the politicians. Following that meeting and that letter, we then raised a campaign.
11316. Ms Jordan: Could I have the next one.[23] This is the first leaflet that went out, on what has turned out to be a campaign run by Mr Muhammad Haque including our campaign which has spent hundreds of hours, millions of words, hundreds of leaflets, lots public meetings—
11317. Mr Liddell-Grainger: We can take those as read.
11318. Ms Jordan: I just wish to put on record that we feel it is this campaign and Mr Haque's work that effected the change in the tunnel and the spoil removal that happened two or three days before—
11319. Mr Liddell-Grainger: It does not matter who did it. We got the message. What we are trying to ascertain is what you want.

One of the aims of the SsBA is to represent the views of its members and the wider community and all the economic and other related issues as they affect Spitalfields, and it is on this basis that I wish to present the following case in relation to the Promoters' proposals for their cross London rail link to the heart of our community.
11301. Before going into detail I wish it to be recorded that these views relate only to the detail of the works as they relate to the Brick Lane area, because we are told that it is not possible for this Committee to discuss or take evidence aboutovery clso: the need of economic justification for the overall proposals, and we consider the overall proposals to be neither economically sound nor socially justified.
11302. As an Association of Small Businesses we also wish to have put on record our opposition to the notion that businesses in London should pay a percentage increase in business rates—
11303. Mr Liddell-Grainger: Mrs Jordon, this is nothing to do with us; you said it yourself. We cannot take it into consideration.
11304. Ms Jordan: We do object to having to be considered that we will put a percentage on our rates to support a rail link tunnel connecting simply the City of London to Canary Wharf in the east and Heathrow in the west, and no amount of argument claiming economic regeneration, which has been claimed, additionality or connectivity will change our minds about this. We are convinced that the proposals are anything but what they say they are and represent the advancement of the City into the East End. They will do, as far as we are concerned, the opposite to what they say they will do and in our opinion they will devastate and completely destroy our vibrant and multi-cultural community. I will note that I put in my notes here, "I expect the Chairman by now to be saying what he is not wanting to hear from Miss Jordan," and for his sake I will now turn to the detail of the Bill.
11305. My papers are numbers 1 to 4. If you could start with one, please. This is the slide you saw much earlier when these proceedings started.[10] In fact, my office has kindly altered it to try and highlight what the Promoters were saying where our properties are affected by it. You can see a very large yellow block in the middle. Down on the right-hand side is a block where the arrow route of the traffic is, which is a converted synagogue and business centre where my office is. In fact, just behind the very large block in the middle which was going to be the hole, you will just be able see two little strips of yellow.
11306. Could you turn to the next document, please.[11] This document shows our property holding as it is affected by the railway. These are the properties that are affected. You can see large chunks of property to the left of where the main hole would be, which are workshops and flats which were the ones the housing co-operative started off with. The plots to the south, I have mentioned. The block in the north is another collection of properties that we have off Brick Lane which are subject to being probably interfered with with the first Crossrail proposal. Come along and you will see to the east of where the hole is there is a whole series of blocks which are also properties, some of which are owned by the SSPA and the very large property on the left-hand side is a community centre which is owned by the local authority but managed by ourselves.
11307. Could you turn to the next picture, please.[12] I have put this in as a graphic representation. It is an extract from a manual report of—and if I could read Bengali, then I could tell you—it is 1989. It was representing our tenants and members. You can see from Hanbury Street and Princelet Street we sit exactly in and around where this hole is, so you will see how we are affected.
11308. Could I see the next picture, please.[13] These pictures are of the properties in Hanbury and Princelet Streets. You will see the Dutch gable properties which are on Hanbury Street which were improved in the late 1980s and the single row of terrace with the big building in the background. The big building is in fact Britannia House which is, or was in fact, to be knocked down and the single row of properties are back workshops behind a terrace of property owned by the housing co-operative. These were properties we separated out in terms of residential and industrial use. You can see the tenants outside. This, in fact, was a building site that Prince Charles came to when he said something should be done with the East End. I should say that now we are certainly having something done to us.
11309. Now the next one, please.[14] Unfortunately, despite our property holding, it was not until the beginning of January 2004 that I knew anything about the proposals for a large hole in Hanbury Street. It was simply by bumping into a neighbour of ours who said, "I thought you would have been jumping up and down about the fans in Hanbury Street." I said, "What fans in Hanbury Street?" I was then told there had been some exhibition in late October that he had called in and seen but was not been seen by anybody else. That neighbour directed me to a Crossrail website. On the Crossrail website I found these two boards, and I understand these were boards that were in their public consultation exhibition. You can see on the left-hand side our Dutch gable properties looking very smart, not quite right but very smart, adjacent to it and above it is an indication of a major development which was to take place with the fans and a strange sort of tunnel arrangement underneath. This horrified me, but it was when I read the sheet on the left-hand side that alarm bells really started ringing. Whilst it was explained that this would be a ventilation shaft and it would indeed have fans that would be running day and night, the second to last paragraph, when I read it, absolutely caused alarm bells. I will read it to the Committee for the sake of the report: "The shaft worksite is also proposed to be used as a launch and retrieval point for tunnel-boring machines that will be used during tunnel construction". Now being an architect, I understood what this meant. I was absolutely horrified that the indication of these words was the fact that the tunnels will be dug from our area. One sentence, nothing else, nothing else on the website, no indication of the Pedley Street worksite other than a little green line running up the side. I was absolutely horrified.
11310. I was so horrified that in fact I penned a letter to Crossrail. In fact, I have an exhibit of that here.[15] If you could just put that up. I will paraphrase all of this. I wrote to Mr Simon Bennett saying that he appeared to have carried out consultations that were about this. We understood that round one consultation would be completed on 19 January and they will be asking for approval under that to fix the line of this railway, which nobody knew about. We had learned nothing about this. We registered our strongest complaints about it and we wished it to be known that not only was a consultation exercise a sham but we were also lead to believe that the office had been told not to consult in our area. We also demanded that round one consultation process remain open until the proposals about the Hanbury Street shaft and spoil tunnels were openly presented to the people of the Brick Lane area so we could all see what was going on. I copied my letter to a great number of local organisations, all of which are listed on this letter. I got no reply to that and, therefore, consulted a friend of mine who was a retired QC who also thought it was rather odd that nothing happened and we had not been consulted. Therefore, I wrote again to Mr Bennett on 6 February explaining that we ask again that they give consideration to further examination and to give us the opportunity to be consulted.[16] We also pointed out that there is not to be anything about the environmental effects this would have within our community within their presentation. I did get later replies. What then pursued was two or three months of hectic information gathering, not information that was presented at a public meeting but information across a great number of community organisations who met both individually and collectively with Crossrail to try and find out what was happening.
11311. Could you put up the next slide, please.[17] This slide was the one presented not publicly but to a meeting with the Spitalfields Society. Fortunately, we were able to share information. It was on that basis of this that we were able to discover that the Pedley Street worksite which is at the end of that blue line which disappeared off the top of the original presentation drawings was not only as it had been in the first round—can you show me the next one, please, it is the extent of the worksite in Pedley Street on the first proposals for Crossrail—not only was it similar to the original site, but, in fact, it was considerably larger.[18] Not only was it taking spoil from the hole, but it was taking spoil from the railway station that will be dug at Whitechapel. This is a composite diagram of Crossrail's old drawings which my clever staff were able to put together.[19] You will see the lettering and the writing are all at strange angles because they were never connected before, they were all in little bits. You find the great block of Pedley Street was something that I put together having gleaned from the various bits of information that we got at the individual discussions and meetings that we had. Could you put the next one up.
11312. Mr Mould: I am sorry to interrupt the Petitioner but, as the Committee will have noted, lest there be any confusion, those last two drawings were composites of the private bill scheme from the early 1990s on which certain earlier aspects of the current scheme—because Pedley Street is, of course, no longer part of our proposals—were superimposed.
11313. Ms Jordan: Could you go back now please. This one is a composite of your current scheme, and I may in my bag have drawings.[20] These are three separate drawings; in fact the only addition is the very large block at the top which is in my composite added to your drawings. Could I go to slide 11 now, please.[21] Having put this picture together locally, everybody was so horrified that we tried to get a public meeting called by Crossrail. Crossrail refused to do this, so in fact my committee invited them to a meeting of a few members. To that meeting we invited—because it was a private meeting, and you are refused to come to a private meeting—representatives of other organisations. This was a letter that was sent to Alistair Darling at the end of that meeting.[22] It said, and I will read some it: "At the meeting of Wednesday 26 May"—this was in 2004—"60 people from 19 local organisations met two Crossrail representatives—"
11314. Mr Liddell-Grainger: Ms Jordan, we can read it.
11315. I will paraphrase then. We expressed our concerns about the worksites and the proposals in Brick Lane here. We had heard they would not hold a public meeting. Despite repeated requests, this did not happen. At the end of that meeting the people living and working in the area passed a resolution. For the record, I would like to read that resolution. It is as follows: "The people of the Brick Lane area, the Spitalfields around the town ward in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, are not prepared to accept the environmental, social and economic impact of the current proposals by Crossrail to locate a tunnel access shaft, ventilation shaft and underground tunnels in and passing through the heart of our communities. We are appalled at the lack of understanding of politicians, engineers and businesses from outside the area of the disruption and profound impact of these proposals of many years on the lives, health and livelihoods of people living and working here. We have launched a campaign for change and we use all legitimate means at our disposal to achieve change. In particular, we will seek with energy and resolve to defeat the re-election for the political representatives not prepared to meet with us to bring about the changes we seek". This was sent in June 2004 and, as you probably know, we now no longer have the MP that was our MP of the period neither do we have the leader of the council and several of the politicians. Following that meeting and that letter, we then raised a campaign.
11316. Ms Jordan: Could I have the next one.[23] This is the first leaflet that went out, on what has turned out to be a campaign run by Mr Muhammad Haque including our campaign which has spent hundreds of hours, millions of words, hundreds of leaflets, lots public meetings—
11317. Mr Liddell-Grainger: We can take those as read.
11318. Ms Jordan: I just wish to put on record that we feel it is this campaign and Mr Haque's work that effected the change in the tunnel and the spoil removal that happened two or three days before—

The Movement that Kay Jordan has been supporting includes the Khoodeelaar! campaign. It was that Movement which on 17 January 2006 decided to LAUNCH the reinstatement of the universal values for a democratic East End Voice through the existing UK Parliament. It was as a result of that act that the mass media propaganda that had been unleashed by the Blairite against the then current MP for Bethnal Green and Bow was brought to an end.
Khoodeelaar! declared that CONTRARY to the Blaired Party’s propaganda and the collusion by the Tories and the Lib Dems [we are referring to hysteria created in the second week of january 2006] via all the mainstream UK Media aimed at George Galloway, he [Galloway] had NOT betrayed the constituency over Crossrail. There is no disputing of the fact that Khoodeelaar! has been opposing Crossrail since January 2004.
So when two years later in Hanbury 2006 some ignorant hate-mongers decided to demonise Galloway by claiming that Galloway had failed to defend the constituency on Crossrail, it HAD TO BE KHOODEELAAR! that spoke the overdue truth on that issue as well. And we did. I spoke in the Hanbury Street into a megaphone and said that those who had been making such claims that Galloway had let his constituency down by failing to attend a crucial vote in the Commons about Crossrail, were not telling the truth. I also said that Galloway HAD spoken against Crossrail hole attacks six months earlier back in July 2005.
I then listed the key failings of the Blairing fakers who had been the ones that had let the Bethnal Green and Bow Constituency [in which Brick Lane London E1 and adjoining areas affected by Crossrail hole attacks as planned are situated].
Kay Jordan was not far from me. She too spoke and accurately denounced the real perpetrators who had brought on the community the threat of the devastating Crossrail hole.
Kay then got into probably one of the very small number of public campaigning local events that she most enjoyed on that day: our march from hanbury Street via Spelman street through Princelet Street and Brick lane and back into the Hanbury Street. We were marking the formal sitting on that afternoon of the “House of Commons” “Crossrail hole BIll” “Select Committee” for the first time.
After our demonstration and public statement setting out the facts about George Galloway’s role in echoing the Khoodeelaar! campaign in parliament upto that time, there was NO MORE references to Galloway's role on Crossrail in any of the fabrications issued about Galloway by the Blairing regime and the Blairing ideological colluders sited and consigned in the Tower Hamlets Blaired party. When that happened only then that some mysteriously silent ‘ allies’ of George Galloway began to surface once again..... They then encroached on the local scene gradually and kept on creeping about in a way that was to lead to Galloway's later experiences that are too widely known by now to be recounted here in this updater report against the Big Biz agenda Crossrail and our defence ongoing of the East End community .
During this week, here, we go over the other details of the impact of the Khoodeelaar! intervention in the context of Bethnal Green and Bow in parliament in the UK and why the KHOODEELAAR! campaign's predictions have all come true as have been our diagnostic commentaries and conclusions and our findings.

The Movement that had defended the right to democratic say for the people of the East London ‘Parliamentary constituency’ of Bethnal Green and Bow in the period to the 5 May polling day at the 2005 UK General elections, enabling the ouster of Oona King and her replacement, did not have long to review the events as the Blairite media machine got pressed into overtime service to destroy the individual who had been put in place by the electorate.
George Galloway became the target and the focus of so much vitriol starting in the second week of January 2006 that ALL evidence was that he would be out of Parliament in the not too distant future.
There was nothing on the UK Political and mainstream media horizons to suggest otherwise. Why? Because the key allies that George Galloway had relied on during the months after his declaration that he would seek election from Bethnal Green and Bow had become extinct in the second week of January 2006. EXTINCT in terms of any support to Galloway who was coming under such fierce and one-sided attack and vilification that it was impossible to think of him as the same person who only months earlier had been publicly feted in the East End generally and in the UK Bangladeshis’ front-line street Brick Lane in particular.

FIVE years ago today 17 January [2006], Kay Jordan spoke in the Hanbury Street London E1 against the Crossrail hole attacks. Two years later, Rhoda Brawne, Kay’s friend, went with Kay Jordan to register opposition to the Crossrail hole Bill then being processed via a committee in the House of Lords.
There they encountered a group of peers who had been assembled as the ‘Crossrail Bill Select Committee’.
The Group of peers behaved true to form. The form had been set already in the 2006-2007 ‘session’ of the House of Commons’ version of the “Crossrail Bill Select Committee”.
The behaviour of the peers’ ‘committee’ in that ‘sitting’ was as daft, as banal, as really contextually irresponsible, undemocratic, antidemocratic and as contrary to the requirements of universally desirable codes of accountability as had been on display during the comparable sitting staged in the House of Commons during the previous ‘parliamentary year’. The result was that Kay Jordan found herself being misaddressed, misheard by the perpetrating peers performing the parts of the peddling of the agenda of Big Business that their little committee had been routinely contrived to perform.
This created moments which Kay Jordan spent trying to explain her role so that the parasitic peers would be prevented from persisting in obstructive or offensive obiter interruptions.
So offensive were the peers and so unhelpful that Kay Jordan’s friend Rhoda Brawne decided to speak. Inevitably, the parasiting peers failed to get the real message thus ending up with an inane and creepy exchange aimed at Rhoda Brawne herself.
So deeply insulting were they that Rhoda Brawne went on record to assert that she should not be addressed as if she were a schoolchild!

Kay Jordan has been a foremost supporter of the universal human rights movement. As she has shown repeatedly whenever an issue has arisen about the appropriate language of communication in the Brick Lane area or elsewhere in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Kay has been perplexed at the persistent ignorance of those who keep on referring to the Bangladeshis inaccurately. On many occasions in the past decade she has shown an active awareness of and respect for the appropriate language. Nowhere else has that issue been more important than when eding with the needs of so many Bangladeshi women in the Kay Jordan community. There is no other phrase to best describe the people, many of them women, who have grown to look on Kay as their sister, big sister, friend and true interpreter of their needs.
When I first discussed the matter of organising the local community with Kay in 2004 at the start of the Khoodeelaar! campaign against the Crossrail hole threat, one of the very groups of people Kay mentioned very positively was the women. “I will get my women together!”
So I said let’s go and talk to them!
It was with this preparation that Kay and I arrived at an address in the Princelet Street, not far from the plotted site for the nasty Crossrail hole . The rest of that walk, as they say, has become part of the ongoing action that is the campaign against the Big Business agenda scam Crossrail.
Kay has known from her life of contact with and of helping so many women what their ordinary language is. What their cultural expressions and preferences are. What makes them feel at home and what gives them human sustenance. Kay has lived a true active hectic life in a really alive community where her sense of being has been daily confirmed by the affinity she has felt with so many people, more than half of them women.
So when I was speaking from the rooftop of a former factory in the Hanbury Street I was doing so only in English. I had minutes earlier picked up the megaphone and had aimed it in the direction of the imminent batch of the House of Peers Crossrail Bill Select Committee [February 2008] quite literally blasting out bold English terms when I noticed that a fast walking Kay was approaching me. If that was not behaviour totally designed to make Kay Jordan feel one of us in the community, I cannot think of anything else that could be!

Kay Jordan has been a foremost supporter of the universal human rights movement. As she has shown repeatedly whenever an issue has arisen about the appropriate language of communication in the Brick Lane area or elsewhere in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Kay has been perplexed at the persistent ignorance of those who keep on referring to the Bangladeshis inaccurately. On many occasions in the past decade she has shown an active awareness of and respect for the appropriate language. Nowhere else has that issue been more important than when eding with the needs of so many Bangladeshi women in the Kay Jordan community. There is no other phrase to best describe the people, many of them women, who have grown to look on Kay as their sister, big sister, friend and true interpreter of their needs.
When I first discussed the matter of organising the local community with Kay in 2004 at the start of the Khoodeelaar! campaign against the Crossrail hole threat, one of the very groups of people Kay mentioned very positively was the women. “I will get my women together!”
So I said let’s go and talk to them!
It was with this preparation that Kay and I arrived at an address in the Princelet Street, not far from the plotted site for the nasty Crossrail hole . The rest of that walk, as they say, has become part of the ongoing action that is the campaign against the Big Business agenda scam Crossrail.
Kay has known from her life of contact with and of helping so many women what their ordinary language is. What their cultural expressions and preferences are. What makes them feel at home and what gives them human sustenance. Kay has lived a true active hectic life in a really alive community where her sense of being has been daily confirmed by the affinity she has felt with so many people, more than half of them women.
So when I was speaking from the rooftop of a former factory in the Hanbury Street I was doing so only in English. I had minutes earlier picked up the megaphone and had aimed it in the direction of the imminent batch of the House of Peers Crossrail Bill Select Committee [February 2008] quite literally blasting out bold English terms when I noticed that a fast walking Kay was approaching me. One of the people that Kay Jordan has worked very closely with in identifying the Crossrail hole attack threat to the Brick Lane London E1 [and adjoining] area has been Rhoda Brawne.
I update on Rhoda Brawne's work with Kay Jordan in this series, starting with the report that follows this contextual introduction.
The “Brick Lane London E1 area” has been “important” in the measurement, calculation, indexing, description, reference concerning “deprivation`’ in the “inner cities” in the UK.
Over the past 50 years at least, the prominence of deprivation in the UK’s internal social control strategy “thinking” has been increasing. Deprivation strategy as a tool for state-linked action and agenda setting has been getting deeper. And the fact, the incidence and the presence of deprivation in the context of the policy decisions made for the furtherance of the various cravings of Big Business have been included as essential items of reference not to address and eradicate deprivation but to use deprivation as a central plank of the assault on the deprived communities to keep them down and to further deprive them.
Deprivation is material.
Deprivation is environmental.
Deprivation is social.
Deprivation is political.
Deprivation is in breach of all declared codes of state, Government and Political behaviour!
So when the Khoodeelaar! campaign was founded SEVEN years ago on Saturday 31 January 2004, it was done with the clear aim to stop the FURTHER IMPOSITION of deprivation on the Brick Lane London E1 area and on the similarly deprived adjoining parts of the inner city East London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
At that founding event, Kay Jordan described in brief some of the technical and engineering ploys as known at that point time that had been devised to drive the Crossrail hole scam through the area. Kay Jordan stated at the meeting held on 31 January 2004 at the Montefiore Centre [Hanbury Street, off Brick Lane] how deeply and extensively the then known Crossrail plot would impact on the area. I can recall that the meeting was attended by a significant number of locally resident and or locally working personnel. Only Kay Jordan spoke at length about the technical aspect and the most logically feasible scenarios that would result from the then known Crossrail plot details at that meeting. Others who spoke did so either very briefly or as inquirers wishing to be informed of what the Crossrail plot was about.
That aspect, the status - and more importantly the ABSENCE from the peddlers and the prompters of the Crossrail scam of RELIABLE - information, has been a constant feature of the behaviour of the Crossrail scam promoters, peddlers and pushers. Those peddlers, promoters and pushers have included of course the UK central Government Department for Transport [DfT] and the London “mayor-controlled” outfit the Transport for London [=TfL].
Both TfL and DfT have persisted over the past SEVEN years in denying information when asked or they have been unable to answer logical, rational, constitutional law question and queries.
The same has been their position about the environmental questions. And about the technical, engineering questions.
Kay Jordan has been a leading questioner on the engineering and the planning aspects fo the Crossrail plot.

I have in the past 10 minutes noticed the web site entries on the Scotsman reporting about George Galloway's proposed bid to get into the Scottish parliament at the presently scheduled May 2011 election.
Galloway was MP for this area, Brick Lane which is in the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency, from May 2005 to the 6 may 2010 general election.
Yet the scotsman has dropped all references to this fact in its “Profile” of George Galloway.
Here is what the text of that “profile” taken from the Scotsman's web site reads:

Kay Jordan has been defending Brick Lane that stands right opposite the City of London enclave that has been encroaching on the East End. As a community architect that she designated herself, Kay Jordan has been ceaseless in her dedication. Something requiring more than ordinary human stamina and more importantly something more than ordinary care and dedication. Where Kay Jordan has found those she has never spoken about. Crossrail Makes the Earth Move
Intriguing to see that after four-five solid years of petitioning Crossrail's Select Committee and lobbying Peers and MPs, the Spitalfields community appears to have got a result and a quiet miracle has happened in our midst. That instead of the original proposal: 120 lorries a day pounding our narrow streets to take the earth from the tunnelling process to a railway in Allen Gardens (just off Brick Lane) which would then have run 24/7 through the night, daily for around 6 years (yes, six years!) to carry this earth all the way down to Limehouse, Mile End and beyond...meaning six years of misery, noise, danger on the roads, subsidence and asthma for local schoolchildren- instead, we now have common sense ladies and gentlemen of the jury - yes, the 'spoil' as it is called, is to be transported on barges down the river Thames to be used for a bird sanctuary on Wallasea Island, Essex. Hallelulujah...praise be! A green solution even.

Amazing really when you think about the amount of effort expended on persuading Crossrail not to dig a hole the size of the Channel Tunnel just off Brick lane.
The true heroes in all of this were my friend Kay Jordan (MBE), who runs the Spitalfields Small Businesses Association and is a brilliant architect by profession. She was able to take the plans apart painstakingly in front of the Select Committee, while speaking a language they understood and persuade them that the tunnel should be dug from the ends rather than from a central shaft in the middle of the village of Spitalfields. She proposed that they take the earth out of the ends of the tunnel rather than here...and that my friends was a significant victory.
Of course it helped that Tower Hamlets Council eventually saw sense and got behind the residents. It's not hard to see why. We are voters to them after all.
Secondly, my two good friends Guy Carpenter and his girlfriend Bal Khela (ex-journo for The Lawyer) and adviser with Citizens Advice - both of whom I met when we were campaigning to save Spitalfields Market from the wrecking ball (1999 - 2003) - who campaigned tirelessly throughout on no pay, working endlessly through the legal documentation, photocopying into the night - even going so far as to work with a pro bono QC of their own.
And finally, Mohammed Haque, who helped to mobilise the Bangladeshi community while George Galloway was making a complete tit of himself on Big Brother, and encourage the local businessmen to fire off legal challenges to the Crossrail proposals and hold a rally outside Parliament. (I'll never forget those local meetings of the Bangladeshi business community at the Brady Centre near Brick Lane, where every time Galloway's name was mentioned, loud 'Miaooows' could be heard resounding around the hall. Priceless).
I should really point out that we owe a big thank you to Jacqui Smith, the then Labour Whip, for coming up Brick Lane to remind us all that our absent MP was shaming himself on TV while the Crossrail bill was being debated in Parliament...this caused outrage and consternation in the Bangladeshi community who immediately responded by getting on the case and firing off legal challenges left right and centre.
Thanks for that Jacqui! We will be eternally grateful.
It was yet another New Labour own goal. They under-estimated the power of this community, which has always thought on its feet and reacted vigorously to the moral paucity and lethargy of successive governments, be they Labour, Lib-dem or Tory. You only have to read 'Spitalfields: A Battle for Land', Charlie Foreman's amazing book to get an idea of the history of failure by politicians to sort out the housing and planning issues in Spitalfields.
You can read my petition on the Parliament website, and hear it read out by me in the Lords, in front of two intimidating QC's (one looking the spit of Rumpole of the Bailey) a few years ago (there's a priceless bit where I'm speeding ahead with my presentation - possibly a bit too impetuously and the particularly stuffy QC attempts to slow me down, by saying "You'll get your day in court Miss. Broadbridge." and I respond, "I intend to your honour"...(I know what you're thinking - saucy minx)...You can only hear this on the audio version on the Parliament website though...if you can be bothered to look it up on: www.parliament.uk
The irony at the time of course was that the two QC's also just happened to be working for Jeff Rooker (Uncle Jeff) the Labour Minister, representing the Government as counsel on a case in N. Ireland because Jeff was also N.Ireland Minister. I was working for Rooker as a press officer at the time, so it was all very pally on the tea breaks. I think they thought I was part of the Establishment, like them. I kept up the act.

The irony at the time of course was that the two QC's also just happened to be working for Jeff Rooker (Uncle Jeff) the Labour Minister, representing the Government as counsel on a case in N. Ireland because Jeff was also N.Ireland Minister. I was working for Rooker as a press officer at the time, so it was all very pally on the tea breaks. I think they thought I was part of the Establishment, like them. I kept up the act.

As a universally recognisable volunteer, Kay Jordan has been a natural. And she has shown just how wide the spectrum of a true volunteer’s remit can be. So well liked has she been among the ordinary folk in the Brick Lane area that her surname has been either forgotten or remained unknown most of ‘her community’.
The word ‘Kay’ has been enough to address and identify who she is and how important her involvement is to those in contact with her.
From real life agony aunt [as different from the hyped up tabloid versions] to everything that people walking the streets in the East One area have been having to grapple with, there is hardly any problem, any woe that Kay has not had a go at solving and resolving in the course of her dedication to help others.
AVNews 2011 launch editon will carry some stunning stories about the Wonder Volunteer Kay !
AADHIKAROnline published the following campaign post [“Demonstrations in East End on day Crossrail hole MPs due to visit”] on the UK Indymedia on 22 May 2006. That was a very brief item. A lot of work was already taking place that week in the East End of London as organised by the Khoodeelaar! campaign against Crossrail.
One KHOODEELAAR! campaign activist, Kay Jordan, spent several hours after her ‘day job’ doing some of the vital campaign work. One item was the neat words NO XRAIL HOLE that appeared on the wall at the junction between the Hanbury Street and Spital Street [near Brick Lane].
The Khoodeelaar! campaign volunteers were as active throughout that week as they have been during any other week for the SEVEN years since the campaign was established in January 2004. Kay Jordan helped found the campaign. The true nature of Kay Jordan the perfect volunteer has been coming to the fore for the past seven years.
A great deal of Kay Jordan’s involvement as a volunteer has been physically witnessed in the Hanbury Street.

Demonstrators are preparing to draw attention to the unnecessary devastation Crossrail hole Bill will cause to the area unless the Bill is scrapped in its present form

Kay Jordan has been walking the streets of East London doing many things. To end hardship for many people. One project she has been supporting has been a women’s training and English language effort called Heba. Heba is an Arabic language word, denoting, amongst other things, the ‘usually’ unrecognised talents of women! Or the talents of womenkind! This is typical Kay Jordan. Whoever gave her the support in devising the word for the Heba project may or may not have realised it but Kay was doing what Kay has been doing in everything she has been doing: aim to achieve more with less! We shall meet some real characters that live upto Kay Jordan’s philosophy. However, before doing that, we take a brief look at how far kay Jordan has been travelling to keep Heba going. She has had a home address in the Hampstead area for years. But trying to find Kay Jordan at home in that area would be hard. Even during weekends. One of the strings that have pulled her heart literally all day has been Heba. So concerned has she been about Heba that at one point she decided to stand at the entrance to 170 Brick Lane trying to raise funds by selling an assortment of clothes that had been made as part of a sewing class also run at Heba! For an entire cold Sunday, Kay Jordan stood on her feet hoping to collect some cash to help Heba! Every time some “customer” approached the “stand” Kay’s face lit up with utter expectation... It was a sight to behold especially in the knowledge that she had been working all week doing the drudgery of completing an entire new set of frustrating pleas [= “funding applications”!] to all manner of “charities” and semi-charities begging for funds for Heba! Looking at how totally demanding the task of fund raising has been to Kay Jordan and taking a brief trek down the Brick Lane bit that runs northwards from 170 [Brick Lane] to the junction with the Bethnal Green Road shows a telling condemnation of all those occupying the comfy chairs in the “decision-making 'suites'” in the “local” Tower Hamlets Council. How? How else but by the Rich MESS Centre!
