I am ALSO saying that Sadiq Khan let the side down [as far as he could do otherwise] when he took part in the limited but demonstrable broadcast “commentaries” in the immediate hours after the votes had been cast.
I am charging Sadiq Khan with opportunism and I am saying that he FOLLOWED the line that was DISTANCING the Labour Party Bureaucracy from Ken Livingstone at that time.
I AM contrasting Khan’s “deliberate diffidence” and intellectually ambivalent and hesitant performance with the superb adherence to principle and coherent delivery, on the night, that the Islington MP Emily Thornberry showed in her many appearances on TV that crucial night after the voting.
It was crucial because the VOTING was NOT the end for democratic accountability.
Emily Thornberry DID hold her ground and DID show enough loyalty to Ken Livingstone when it was so important for the viewers to distinguish between the two candidates.
I am surprised that Khan has been given the “London” brief and yet he remains as much
in the dark now as he was almost two years ago.
What I am saying about Khan here does NOT mean that I am at all impressed by a single one of the others that have been displayed as being on the “Labour List for London”.
Perhaps one of the reasons why the vaunted (so far, at any rate) “Labour List for London” contains so many dumb ones is a function of the corruption that has dominated the Labour Party’s controlling Bureaucracy for decades.
It is by SHEER ACCIDENT that the likes of Emily Thornberry have managed to get any spots in the Labour Party Machine.
But independent, principled political programme is NOT encouraged by the Labour Party Machine.
So that is one reason why Ken Livingstone was ALWAYS a stranger.
I say all this “for” Livingstone in the full knowledge that I am and have been the most extensive, longest standing critic of so many wrong things that Livingstone did both at the GLC and as the Bliar-backed occupier of the post at the Onion in the name of London.
I say “Bliar-backed” to refer to the post being created by the antidemocratic cabal that Bliar fronted in Government.
That post was wrong for London as it has been and remans wrong for every single London borough wherever it has been foisted in miniature since.
Here I am advocating an ethical standard in these commentaries.
Especially as the London Evening Standard has no standards at all in ITS coverage!
[To be continued]
Sadiq Khan is quoted as saying:
Boris Johnson is a 'blithering, Bullingdon, Bollinger drinking buffoon', says Tooting MP....
