The latest “news” item about Brick Lane London E1 area Ward Tower Hamlets councillor Shelina Akhtar, is not at all a news item. It is a dodge. It is a fudge. It is trite. It is of no consequence It is so futile that I am going to examine it in every detail. The ex “ELA” has the duty to report on what Tower Hamlets Council is doing about fraud in the Council. What the Council is doing about poverty. About unemployment. About failing schools. About failing projects. About Council funding. About the abuses of the links with the Council that many councillors are involved in. The item about Shelina Akhtar as carried on the website still published in the name of the “East London Advertiser" says nothing about the Council. Nor does it say anything about what the Council is “doing” about Shelina Akhtar.

So what SHOULD the ex East London Advertiser have said?

It should have said what the OTHER COUNCILLORS are doing to “democratically” persuade Shelina Akhtar to resign.

The reporter of the ex “East London Advertiser” item is Mike Brooke who cannot pretend ignorance about what many in Tower Hamlets are saying about the very low level of accountability by the Council. So why isn’t Mike Brooke saying what he knows people are saying about the Council as a whole and not just about the issue of Shelina Akhtar?

Disgraced Tower Hamlets councillor Shelina Akhtar refuses to step down Mike Brooke Thursday, January 26, 2012 4:51 PM The disgraced Tower Hamlets councillor who admitted in court dishonestly claiming housing and council tax benefit continues to defy calls for her resignation. • Cllr Shelina Akhtar didn’t turn up for last night’s key council meeting—but sent apologies instead. Mayor Lutfur Rahman had been the latest to call for her to step down, after demands from both the Labour Group leader and Tory Group leader for her to go. She pleaded guilty on January 9 to three charges of failing to notify a change of circumstance and continued claiming benefits and will be sentenced on February 6. Akhtar won her seat on the council in 2010, representing Spitalfields for Labour, but then defected to become an independent working alongside Mayor Rahman. The mayor said earlier this month that council procedures had to be followed and the authority was waiting for the outcome of the court sentencing before deciding any further steps. :
