In a very rare event, the former ‘East London Advertiser”, which callously backed the bid to undermine the already tenuous democratic structure of the local Tower Hamlets Council in 2010, has confessed that it was wrong to back an elected mayor system in Tower Hamlets.
Oops!
The Confession has been covert.
In effect.
The confession comes in a front page comment about Shelina Akhtar.
In it, the Advertiser says words and phrases that amount to a confession. But the Advertiser’s failures to tell the truth about the corrupt culture in Tower Hamlets Council has cost the community far more than the Advertiser will be able to understand. This is because of the ignorant base on which the Advertiser's “journalism” trades. We shall update on the Advertiser in due course. Back to “Benefit fraud Councillor” for the “Bangla town” ward, Shelina Akhtar.
The point made by the Advertiser on the specific occasion is a valid and timely one. Although the Advertiser holds back on most issues that it should have a say on as far as the poor level of ethics and morality and the now almost utterly absent democracy on Tower Hamlets Council are concerned. Shelina should herself resign and thus save herself the bigger disgrace of being forced to quit.
