I pointed out some weeks ago that the Pickles code had one huge loophole. There are no penalties for ignoring its "guidance."
Why should you refer to that as if it were an exception, Roy?
Look at the so-called ‘local democracies’.
What are the penalties for their failures to serve the local communities in accordance with the universally recognisable codes of democratic requirements?
How have they been setting the CONDEM imposed CUTS budgets?
Don’t THOSE matter more than the estimated impact on the business of the ‘local press’, associated most often in your pieces to the “East London Advertiser” when referring to Tower Hamlets?
Shouldn’t the approach be guided by an aim to correct the disservice being done to the ordinary public in any area covered [or left bereft of substance and the truth] by the relevant local authority and their local ‘independent titles’ in context?
Have you actually done a sustained contens analysis of the “East London Advertiser” and that of a comparable “real local newspaper”?
Would be interesting to see what you have found.
As far our campaign has found there is no point in simply reciting the fact that the “East London Advertiser:” has been losing out as a result of the Tower Hamlets Council’s persistent PRAVDA publication we have long described on the facts as the “East End Lies”.
What needs to happen is an objective awareness about what BOTH types of ‘newspaper’ or medium actually bring to the local communities. Do they bring real news or do they bring untruths?
Going by the absence of rigourous investigative and arduous journalism [as opposed to gossip and hypes for certain Right leaning Councillor leaking in a bizarre indulgence of his own] about all the key decisions and policies affecting the real parts of the peoples’ lives in the East End, we can say that the general atmosphere among ordinary people is not a fraction as committed to the “East London Advertiser” as it could be ! And this is more like a reason why the “East End Lies” is set to be perpetrated. Mr Starbrook or whoever in his place over at Ilford now “Editing” the “East London Advertiser” may like to ask themselves why that title has been failing to publish stories that could have awakened a lot of local people to the massive failures that we have been faced with by the CUTS-compliant Council since before the period of CONDEM cuts! 1635 Hrs GMT London Friday 11 March 2011 BHANGEELAAR!
