December and January are two momentous months in the calendar. As they have been in the calendar of campaigns for the defence of the community in the East End of London.
In that calendar, Kay Jordan featured unmistakably on almost every date.
Kay Jordan acted SEVEN years ago this month to do something about the Crossrail attacks planned on the East End of London. This decision was given a practical expression when Kay and I thought of holding a public meeting in the Brick Lane London E1 area to alert the community of the threatened Crossrail hole planned against the East End.
The first public meeting Kay helped mobilise was held on 31 January 2004.
The KHOODEELAAR! campaign was born on that occasion and is continuing to defend the East End of London from the Big Biz agenda.
The tributes being paid to Kay Jordan this week are a token of the community’s thanks and gratitude to this brilliant human bering who was one of us for a quarter of a century. Those 25 years will last beyond numbers.
