No to HS2 -3

Ed Miliband is back to being Mr Miniature again!

As the Camden New Journal shows the evidence of Mr Minibrand's ignorance, self-serving and disconnection.

Here is their NEWS REPORT:

Labour leader Miliband tours home turf but is reluctant to protect Camden from HS2 building

Ed Miliband and Chuka Umunna meet Camden Town butcher Miguel Martin

LABOUR leader Ed Miliband toured the area set to be worst affected by the London to Birmingham HS2 rail link on Thursday – his home turf of Camden.

But while he shelled out promises to freeze business rates and energy bills, he could not promise to halt the years of demolition and disruption that the £50billion high-speed link will cause around Euston and in Camden Town.

Instead, he insisted Labour still backed HS2, a project his party’s members in Camden say they oppose.

As it stands, the HS2 plan will see residents and businesses in the south of the borough turfed out, while Camden Town is turned into a construction site as the new link is hooked up to the existing HS1 line to Kent over the ageing London Overground bridges.

Mr Miliband, who was visiting Camden Town with shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna, said: “I would say you have to make the decision on HS2, first of all, on what is in the national interest and the interests of London, and then you have to look at what can be done about local concerns.

"You have to get the national decision right first, and then look at Camden.”

His support for the scheme is unlikely to go down well with Labour members locally who will tell voters they are doing their best to fight HS2 ahead of next May’s elections, but seem unable to convince their own party’s leader.

Mr Miliband added: “There are two issues on HS2 – there’s the overall issue, and we’ve said we are in favour of HS2, although ensuring that it is value for money.

"That’s the important thing, there can’t be any blank cheques.

“The second thing is the local concerns, and that’s got to go through the proper planning processes – and I do understand the local concerns in Camden as a local resident. I do, but that’s the process it has got to go through.”

On their tour of Camden, Mr Miliband and Mr Umunna visited Martin’s Butchers in Camden High Street, which warned they might have to move out of Camden Town if business rates did not stop rising.

Later, in a newsagent, Mr Miliband was warned by a builder struggling to find work that people “felt like crying”, and that people lined up for work on a construction site each morning like a scene from On The Waterfront, each hoping to be picked.

Mr Miliband, who lives in Dartmouth Park and is a former student of Haverstock School, said rising business rates should not be blamed on Camden Council.

He insisted:

“A lot of this comes from central government. The council is trying to help as hard as it can, but the responsibility lies with the government.”

A very sterile, a very blank and a very unfriendly stare on Ed Minibrand's face as he is confronted by local trade Miguel Martin in Camden..

The Guardian continues lying for the Neo Cons’ HS2 scam -2
In the past 10 minutes, the Guardian web site has posted a
piece by its Rightwing, Neo Cons-peddling place man
place man Nicholas watts peddling the Neo Cons' latest lie for HS2. Typically when the Guardian is in that mode,
It does not have space or any option online for Comment. So here is a first comment.
It is another lie by the HS2 Gang that Manchester is "due to be connected to London" by the bogus project.
Why is it a lie?
For a start, the word "due" is an IMMEDIATE word.
it is not at all about anything that is behind a year.
So for the lying peddlers to insert that phrase
"due to be connected..." is to insult the intelligence of thinking people...
